About this guide

Milwaukee winters are cold, and locals skate at Red Arrow Park, tube in Franklin, sauna and settle into a warm taproom anyway. Here are real places, with notes on what to confirm.

Plan your day

The Mitchell Park Domes are open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crystal Ridge is about 15 minutes from downtown. The Rep's A Christmas Carol plays Dec. 2 to 24, 2026, at the Pabst Theater.

Indoors

  • Cozy taprooms

Visit Milwaukee's winter 2025 list calls many taprooms homey hideaways. Central Waters' Milwaukee taproom sits in a historic church with 1873 architecture.

  • Mitchell Park Domes

Warm glass domes full of plants. Open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The fall show, Treasure of the MUMmies, runs Sept. 19 to Nov. 8, 2026. This season's holiday dates were not posted when we checked on Oct. 6, so confirm before you go.

  • The Rep's A Christmas Carol

The Milwaukee Rep stages it Dec. 2 to 24, 2026, at the Pabst Theater.

Outdoors

The honest version

Visit Milwaukee says it plainly: winters here are cold, but that does not stop locals from having a good time. Plan around it. Bundle up, then duck inside, and warm up at Oak Barrel on Old World Third Street.

Visit Milwaukee says holiday light displays go up across Greater Milwaukee starting in the middle of November, and the Admirals play 36 home games at the UW‑Milwaukee Panther Arena, starting in November. Lake Park draws ice skaters and snowshoers in colder weather.

Last winter's guide also listed a holiday show at the Domes and a February beer festival at the Harley-Davidson Museum with more than 30 breweries. Neither has this season's dates yet, so check before you plan around them. Planning a winter party? See private events at Oak Barrel.
